Last spring, when I was the editor of Park Cities People, I suggested that Highland Park ISD should try to acquire land from a church to build a new campus. This week, school district officials publicly acknowledged for the first time that they are in negotiations with Northway Christian Church. The Dallas Morning NewsMelissa Repko reports that the district would buy about a third of the church’s land along Northwest Highway.

A potential sale would require a zoning change at Dallas City Hall. Although the church’s property lies within Highland Park ISD, it’s also in Dallas, not University Park.

Meredith Ridgway, a Highland Park ISD mother who lives near the church, told Repko that a new elementary school could increase nearby property values. If you agree, you may want to buy a house in the neighborhood sooner than later.
