McKenny lists 11 homes for Gingerbread Stroll

“Decorate” your holiday social schedule with the 5th Annual Gingerbread Stroll, to be held Friday, November 18 through Thursday, December 1, at Highland Park Village. Attendees stroll among 11 Highland Park Village merchants where they can admire and silently bid on ornately decorated gingerbread houses, crafted by 11 of Dallas’ premiere pastry chefs. All proceeds from the Gingerbread Stroll will benefit Community Partners of Dallas – an organization that provides support for abused and neglected children by providing direct resources to caseworkers.

Dallas residential real estate agent Christine McKenny founded the Gingerbread Stroll in 2011, with the hopes of bringing the community together to raise funds for local children’s charities. Each year, a different charity is selected as the beneficiary of 100 percent of the proceeds, and in 2014, the Stroll raised more than $16,000 for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Community Leader, Lynn McBee, serves as the event advisor for the Gingerbread Stroll. The Gingerbread Stroll has raised over $40,000 for area children in need, since its inception.

“The Gingerbread Stroll has become a wonderful tradition during the most wonderful time of the year,” said McKenny. “People of all ages gather with their family and friends to attend, and it’s always exciting to see how the chefs express themselves creatively. Everyone loves a gingerbread house!”

Christine McKenny to Showcase 3211 Saint Johns in Sunday Open House from 1 to 3pm (April 24, 2016)

If the wish list for your new home includes location, curb appeal, character, space, a chef’s kitchen, a great backyard with a pool, and storage galore, you may want to rearrange your Sunday afternoon (5.24.16) so you can see Top Producer Christine McKenny’s open house at 3211 Saint Johns in Highland Park from 1-3pm.

Starting with the neighborhood, this four-bedroom, four and ½ bath home for sale in Dallas for $1,875,000 has a European feel. It’s within walking distance of Armstrong Elementary, SMU and the Katy Trail. Snider Plaza is close by, too, as is Mockingbird Station and 75 Central for easy access to Downtown or North Dallas.

3211 Saint Johns

The drive-up offers a taste of what’s to come inside. Mature trees, Lambert’s landscaping and a circle drive invite you to take a closer look. As you enter the radiant front door, thoughtful details catch your eye. Rich hardwoods, crown molding, chair railing, recessed and art lighting and lovely millwork all send the message that elegance has taken up residence here.

Moving on to the adjacent sitting room/formal living room, large windows looking toward the front yard and a gas fireplace encourage lingering, while built-in cabinets and glass shelving add a practical component. The 17’ long dining room can accommodate an oversized dining table, making family gatherings comfortable. Everything about the upstairs master suite speaks of space as well, from the seating area, private balcony and bonus exercise room to the master bath with separate his-and-her dressing areas and large closets. And the expansive quarters could serve as a game room or house guests with its kitchenette and full bath.

The updated kitchen will speak to chefs of every ability, with 6-burner gas cooktop with pop-up down draft, built-in dual SubZero refrigerator/freezer, warming drawer and sink with a great view. The generous pantry, silver closet, wet bar and French doors that open onto the patio, quietly remind that the home was designed for families and entertaining.

Agents Make Deposit at Dallas Furniture Bank’s Annual CHAIRity Friendraiser Luncheon

Getting people into a new home is, of course, what real estate agents do best. But sometimes taking things a step further is required. The Dallas Furniture Bank does exactly that by providing beds, tables, chairs and more, for the transitional homeless and others who either have nothing or have lost everything, and are making a new start.

The DFB’s mission is built on the premise that having a functional, legitimate place to lay your head and eat a meal can do wonders for one’s dignity and self-esteem. And we’re thrilled Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate agents Dave & Peggy Millheiser and Christine McKenny have given of their own time and resources to support them in this mission.

Most recently, the trio served as sponsors for the Bank’s 11th Annual CHAIRity Friendraiser, which was held on Wednesday, February 17, at the Belo Mansion. Dave also serves on the DFB board and is chair of the marketing and development committee.

The event featured Stacey Bess, inspirational educator and author, as the speaker, and WFAA News Anchor Alexa Conomos was the emcee. The goal for the event was $125,000, and that amount was surpassed.

Belo Mansion

“Stacey Bess was absolutely amazing,” says Dave Millheiser. “Her message was so compelling and contagious — it served as a great reminder why we’re all behind the great work the Dallas Furniture Bank is doing.”

The Dallas Furniture Bank serves between 400 – 500 needy families a year (impacting approximately 2,000 individuals). Since beginning services in 2003, DFB has served over 8,800 individuals ranging from families transitioning from homelessness and domestic violence, seniors, veterans, refugees, and many others. In partnership with over 60 non-profit agencies throughout the community and specific outreach partners, DFB is the only non-profit organization in Dallas County whose sole mission is to provide basic furnishings to those transitioning to stability.

Kudos to the DFB and all participating agents for raising awareness about this one-of-a-kind organization!

Homes for the Holidays Tour Returns to Help Armstrong, Bradfield Schools

lakeside_front
4205 Lakeside Drive is one of five house on the Homes for the Holidays tour.

The Armstrong Bradfield Preschool Association’s Homes for the Holidays Home Tour is back in business, once again with support from Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate.

Last year’s edition was canceled due to icy weather. Nonetheless, contributions from sponsors such as Dave Perry-Miller agents Jane Gordon and Christine McKenny added up to $78,000 being donated to Armstrong Elementary and Bradfield Elementary. Each school used half of the funds for instructional materials, books, technology, math manipulatives, and teacher workshops.

The 2014 tour will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at five homes in Highland Park:

• 3518 Armstrong Avenue
• 4205 Lakeside Drive
• 3501 Lindenwood Avenue
• 3640 Maplewood Avenue
• 4000 McFarlin Boulevard

Gordon has been a Homes for the Holidays sponsor since her son was a kindergartner at Bradfield. He’s now a senior in high school.

“It has become a tradition for many of the tour attendees, both Highland Park ISD residents and those who come every year from outside of HP to support their grandkids’ schools as well,” Gordon said.

This is McKenny’s fourth year as a sponsor, but she’s been a member of the Armstrong Bradfield Preschool Association for seven years. The organization is open to families with children who are kindergarten age or younger and who live in the Armstrong Elementary or Bradfield Elementary attendance zones.

“It’s an incredible organization that is a huge selling point for the residents of Highland Park, as well as those of University Park who feed into the two HP schools,” Gordon said. “It provides a built-in social network for the preschool age children and their parents in the community.”

The Homes for Holidays tour has raised more than $575,000 for Armstrong and Bradfield over the years. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at any of the five featured houses tomorrow.

FYI, if you’re looking for a house in Highland Park ISD, we can help.

Families who stop by the University Park Public Library on Saturday afternoon are in for a treat. Magician and comedian Brett Roberts will be there to present “Dr. Flake-n-stein’s Magic Laboratory,” a show that combines magic, robot puppets, and science experiments. This interactive performance lets children participate in magic tricks and also help with real science experiments, which they could safely recreate at home. The show is designed to encourage children to pursue their interests in magic and science through reading.

This event is part of the UP at the Library Family Time series, which is sponsored by Christine McKenny and Dave Perry-Miller & Associates. All programs begin at 2 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of the month at the library, which is in The Plaza at Preston Center.
