We’re not lyin’ about this offer to see lions.

If you live in North Oak Cliff, Downtown, Uptown, or East Dallas, you can enjoy free admission to the Dallas Zoo on Saturday morning, courtesy of your city councilman.

Scott Griggs, Adam Medrano, and Philip Kingston have teamed up to offer this sweet deal to their constituents in District 1, District 2, and District 14, respectively. If you live in one of those districts, you just have to show proof of residency — such as a driver’s license or utility bill — to get into the zoo for free.

Parking will still run you $8, but you could always take DART’s Red Line train to Dallas Zoo Station.

What does this mean to you? Well, if you’ve been thinking about putting your house on the market, you should probably strike while the iron’s hot. Give a Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate agent a call today.

Sales Prices Rose Last Month in Rosemont’s Attendance Zone

1107 S. Canterbury Court is one of our newest listings in the Rosemont attendance zone.

There has been much news coverage of DISD’s Rosemont schools ever since principal Anna Brining was informed she would be losing her job at semester’s end. In today’s Dallas Morning News, there are two stories about the beloved North Oak Cliff campus. The main story is about research showing that students in dual-language programs, such as Rosemont’s, struggle academically at first but eventually outpace their peers. The secondary story focuses on some of the first students to go through the entire dual-language program, from kindergarten through eighth grade, and they give Rosemont rave reviews.

Homeowners who live in the Rosemont attendance zone will give similar reviews to these statistics from the North Texas Real Estate Information Systems. They show that the average and media sales prices were up last month when compared to March 2015 and to April 2014.

Historic Kessler Park Estate Has Been Fabulousy Updated for Modern Living

1136-turner-1- front

The estate at 1136 Turner Avenue in Kessler Park is filled with history. Not only did generations of Oak Cliff children take piano lessons there, it also hosted meetings of Dallas’ first Boy Scouts troop. But in recent years the home has been lovingly restored and updated for modern living. Mike Bates of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate is offering the revamped luxury property for $1,199,500.

The front of the house includes formal living and dining areas, a library with built-in shelving, and a craft room/art studio. Interesting architectural details include Carrara marble on the walls in the formals and a pair of porthole windows with wooden blinds in the grand staircase.

Just off the kitchen, which features stainless-steel appliances and a charming breakfast area, is a full-size utility room attached to the two-car garage. The first floor is completed by a media room with a two-story entry featuring floor-to-ceiling windows.

All four bedrooms are on the second floor. The master suite begins with a living area that most buyers will envision as a man cave. It’s connected to the master bedroom, which features a fireplace, by a set of French doors. The master bathroom includes a coffee bar with a refrigerator, and it’s wired so that a flat-screen TV can hang over the jetted tub. The separate dressing room, which can also be accessed via the rear stairwell, features built-in drawers and cabinets, a balcony overlooking the media room, and a patio providing views of the backyard.

A guest bedroom suite features another private patio with backyard views. The two other bedrooms share a full bathroom, as well as a playroom that has windows on three walls plus a skylight. Thanks to the property’s abundance of gorgeous greenery, this room is akin to an indoor treehouse.

The fun continues in the unbelievable backyard. With a multi-level patio, a pool complemented by a hot tub and fountain, and a cabana featuring a kitchenette, this yard has hosted its fair share of epic parties with more celebrations sure to come.

Dallas’ City Council has approved a rezoning of the Oak Cliff Gateway, an 850-acre portion of North Oak Cliff. Ten years in the making, the zoning change paves the way for transformation of the land between East Kessler Park and the Trinity River.

If you’re a true policy wonk, you can download this 174-page document on the Oak Cliff Gateway that was part of Wednesday’s council agenda.

Rosemont Elementary School Parents Shocked by News of Principal’s Firing

Our company has been a sponsor of iBike Rosemont, an annual fitness initiative for Rosemont students.

Rosemont Elementary School draws students from the most-desirable neighborhoods in North Oak Cliff: Kessler Park, Stevens Park Estates, and Winnetka Heights. The talk of those neighborhoods has to be today’s news that Rosemont principal Anna Brining will lose her job at the end of this semester. Some parents told The Dallas Morning News they’re going to do everything they can to keep Brining at the school, while others said they will be happy to see her go. With so much parental involvement at the school, there’s sure to be more news in the coming weeks.
