Tom Trigg Named Lone Finalist to be Superintendent of Highland Park ISD


Highland Park ISD announced this morning that Tom Trigg is the lone finalist to be the distric’s next superintendent. After a 21-day waiting period mandated by state law, the job will officially be his.

dr_tom_triggSince 2004, Trigg has been the superintendent of the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kan. He was named the Kansas Superintendent of the Year in 2011, the same year he was one of four finalists for the National Superintendent of the Year award.

“Dr. Trigg is an educational leader and team-builder of the highest caliber,” said Joe Taylor, president of the HPISD Board of Trustees. “He has an impressive track record of working within a high-performing district to build on existing excellence while developing innovative educational programs to inspire students to both academic success and personal growth.”

Trigg graduated from Ottawa University in 1974 with a B.A. in mathematics and physical education teaching. He went on to receive his master’s degree in educational administration from Emporia State University in 1977 and his doctorate in education from the University of Kansas in 1986.

A lifelong Kansan and career educator, he is the son of two math teachers and the husband of a Spanish teacher. He has three grown children, one of whom lives in Amarillo.

Trigg will replace Dawson Orr, who is leaving Highland Park ISD after six years to become a professor at SMU.

Average Sales Prices Per Square Foot Rose Last Month in Highland Park ISD

These are exciting times for the Highland Park Independent School District. Trustees have been interviewing superintendent candidates behind closed doors at the Park Cities Hilton. Meanwhile, a reception to honor Dawson Orr, the outgoing superintendent, is scheduled from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Highland Park High School cafeteria.

Despite concerns about crowded facilities, Highland Park ISD remains a great place to live and work, and to own property. As these statistics from the North Texas Real Estate Information Systems show, the price per square foot for homes sold in April was up when compared to a year earlier, even though the average and median sales prices dipped.

Median Sales Prices in Park Cities Increased by 18 Percent in March

The median sales price for homes in the Park Cities area rose more than 18 percent in March when compared to the same month a year ago. The following statistics were recently released by the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. Supplied by North Texas Real Estate Information Systems, they represent single-family sales in Area 25, which is generally bounded by Northwest Highway, Central Expressway, Wycliff Avenue, and Lemmon Avenue.

There was 4.4 months’ worth of inventory in Area 25 last month. That means if no other homes came on the market, it should take 4.4 months for the current inventory to sell. That statistic was up from a year ago, but the average number of days on the market was down.
