Park Cities: The finest houses in Highland Park and University Park are showcased annually during the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society’s Historic Home Tour. This year’s edition happens on Saturday, and one of the featured homes, 3432 University Boulevard, is sponsored by our own Christine McKenny and Paige & Curt Elliott.

Downtown: Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate also sponsors the Dallas Art Fair, a showcase for paintings, sculpture, works on paper, photographs, videos, and installations by modern and contemporary artists. The event began this morning at the Fashion Industry Gallery and continues through Sunday afternoon.

Oak Cliff: A variety of vendors, performers, and environmentally conscious citizens will gather in Lake Cliff Park on Sunday afternoon for the Oak Cliff Earth Day celebration.

After Years of Debate, Demolition of Park Cities Family YMCA is Imminent

We know Precision Demolition will start precisely demolishing the Y soon, but we don’t have a precise date.

It was three years ago this month that the University Park City Council began debating the scope of the Park Cities Family YMCA’s expansion. It was one year ago this month that the council finally signed off on the project’s site plan. As you can see from this photo, demolition of the old YMCA — which sits on Preston Road, just north of the boundary separating Highland Park from University Park — will begin any day now. Y officials have provided us a way to keep up with the project, which is expected to wrap up by August 2016.

Highland Park ISD Wants Parents’ Input During Search For New Superintendent

The Highland Park Independent School District is searching for a new superintendent. Residents of the Park Cities are being asked to provide feedback on what kind of person should get the job. District administrators are posing questions such as “What are the strengths of the district and the broader community?” and “What are the desired personal characteristics of the superintendent of schools?” If you’d like to weigh in, you have until April 15 to provide input.

New Tennis Courts and Bridge Are on University Park City Council’s Agenda

Involved residents of University Park have several reasons to attend Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The headline item on the agenda is a public hearing regarding the proposed addition of a tennis court and shade structure to the tract due east of Highland Park High School. But the council will also discuss a proposed multifamily development on the southwest corner of Preston Road and Lovers Lane, the replacement of the buildings at the Holmes Aquatic Center, and the construction of a bridge across Turtle Creek at McFarlin Boulevard. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

Kessler Theater’s Fifth Anniversary Headlines Our Weekend To-Do List

North Oak Cliff was known for being one of the artsier parts of Dallas before the Kessler Theater opened its doors in 2010. The live-music venue, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Friday night with Marshall Crenshaw and the Hillbenders, has taken the neighborhood’s reputation as a destination to another level.

Park Cities residents can do a home-run trot over to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at SMU, where a new exhibit called “Baseball: America’s Presidents, America’s Pastime” opens Saturday.

One of the most-beloved community events in Preston Hollow is the annual Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off. The 22nd annual edition is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Tiferet Israel.
