It’s that time of the year when Texas High School Football becomes the center of the (Texas) universe. This much anticipated season kicks off with The Tom Landry Classic featuring the most exciting high school sports venue of the fall.
The Tom Landry Classic is the largest annual high school sporting event in Texas. The average attendance has been over 30,000, but this year the pig skin extravaganza is expected to break the record books.
The Tom Landry Classic was created to honor the legacy of Tom Landry, celebrate the quality of high school football, and to recognize and reward the outstanding off-the-field accomplishments of the students and athletes who participate in school sports and the supporting activities.
“This event places its primary emphasis on the Landry-like qualities of leadership, academics, and community service” says Clarke Landry of Dave Perry-Miller & Associates, “Of course my children have come to value the Tom Landry Classic as one of their most cherished family get-togethers. My children, Tommy (sophomore at ESD), Logan (senior at Trinity Christian Academy) and Taylor (sophomore at Texas A&M) love going down on the field at half-time with their dad and grandmother Alicia Landry to honor their grandfather. And they enjoy watching some of the best in high school football.”
This annual event (now in its 13th year) features four of the top high school football programs in the state. Watch these exhilarating games, Labor Day Weekend at the Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the campus of Southern Methodist University.
