If you live in University Park, or are considering buying a home there, you should be aware that City Hall is about to further regulate residents’ use of their sprinklers.

At the moment, University Park is like Highland Park and Dallas, in that the city prohibits the use of sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from April 1 through Oct. 31. All three municipalities make an exception for handheld hoses and soaker hoses.

But University Park will likely step up its restrictions this week. An ordinance on the agenda for Tuesday’s council meeting says residents whose addresses end in even numbers will be allowed to use sprinklers only on Sundays and Thursdays. Those with odd-numbered addresses will be free to use their sprinklers only on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

This policy mirrors one already on the books in Dallas. In Highland Park, however, things are much soggier. There, town officials merely suggest that residents limit their sprinkler use to three days a week.
